The Second Van's RV12 Plane Project ZK-ERU
Students from Mercury Bay Area School have the unique opportunity again to build a light aircraft and experience working in a team environment in the workshop assembly area situated in Dakota Drive, Whitanga.
This build will be the third plane build, however the second VANS RV-12 and it is the continuation of Jim Evan’s vision to give back and inspire students about the aviation industry. His passion and experience for aviation is the catalyst for six Year 11 to 13 students from Mercury Bay Area School. The duration of the build project will be over 12 months and the build team of students and mentors from the community will take on the challenge of building a VANs RV-12 kitset two seater aeroplane. The students will learn to work as a team to complete tasks as set out to an industry standard build manual. They have to learn many things such as terminology and reading detailed build plans. Our students learn more than just building a plane they develop relationships with the mentors and are able to experience flight in some local aircraft from Mercury Bay Aero.
