Mercury Bay Area School Board of Trustees wishes to consult with our local community to help to guide our growth and development into the future.
We invite you to complete this survey by Friday 1st December 2017. There are no right or wrong answers, and you do not have to register your name. However, if you do wish to be contacted, please ensure that you complete the contact box at the end of the survey.
Please find a link to the survey here - https://goo.gl/forms/TLCF0MKUmSZKQ92Y2
Alternatively attached is a pdf of the survey, which can be printed, completed and returned to the school office. If you are unable to use either of these options, you are welcome to complete a survey at the school office where they are holding hardcopies.
We appreciate you taking the time to give us feedback to continue improving our school.
Kind regards
MBAS Board of Trustees
Our school offers specialist music lessons in flute, clarinet, vocals, saxophone, drum, guitar, bass guitar and keyboard. Lessons are often over-subscribed and places fill very quickly.
If you would like your child to take part in these lessons, please click the hyperlinks below (for each instrument) or if you have received a hardcopy of this letter please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for the links to register. We will confirm our ability to offer lessons to your child by the end of Week 1 in 2018, and payment in advance for Term 1 will need to be made immediately on acceptance of the lessons in order to keep the space. We are also happy to accept a payment schedule on request.
As the lessons are so highly sought after, it is essential that your child’s fees are paid termly in advance, or that you arrange regular payments in order to pay it off by the end of the year. Additionally, if a student misses too many lessons without explanation, their place will be offered to another student. It is the student’s responsibility to get themselves to their lessons on time. Our teachers do their best to remind students, but ultimately it is their responsibility.
Please note, students in Years 3-6 are only allowed to take one specialist music lesson. Students Year 7 and above may do more than one instrument after consultation with the tutors.

If You Want Your Child to Succeed in Life …Come & Learn How
Prof. Adele Diamond and Paul Blackman
If you were lucky enough to catch Adele Diamond’s presentation in May this year you won’t
want to miss the follow up she has sent to the people of Mercury Bay.
She won’t be with us in person but has entrusted Paul Blackman to deliver this on her behalf.
Free presentation at MBAS Library 7pm-8.30pm Wednesday Nov 1 2017
All Parents, Children, Educators, Medical Practitioners, Mental Health practitioners & anyone with an interest in their child’s future are welcome.
Adele’s discoveries have impacted education around the world and she is recognized as one the 15 most influential neuroscientists in the world. She has discovered the key to a successful life, be it in health, wealth, education, relationships & life in general is about self-control. The now world famous “Dunedin Study” in New Zealand has come to the same conclusions. Paul has worked with her material for the past five years explaining how to put neuroscience theory into practice by delivering workshops, speaking at conferences and working with teachers, parents and professionals nationally.
With 40 years experience, Paul is a qualified Guidance Counsellor , RTLB and teacher.
Discover the secrets of how to think ‘outside of the box’, learn self-control, expand creativity & problem solving and how to use your working memory. Learn how making the right decisions & choices and how following your passions improves executive functions, academic outcomes and mental & physical health.
Adele’s research clearly shows how executive functions ( the parts of the brain responsible for self-control) can be improved especially with very young children. She offers a different perspective that addresses children’s emotional, social & physical needs. We need to nurture our whole child to grow into an amazing human being. Come & listen to Paul as he explains the practical applications of her research and how it links to your child’s success.
If your child presents with learning differences this talk will also be beneficial for you & your child. All welcome
Contact Paul Blackman 027 2379086 for more details or turn up on Wed Nov 1 at the MBAS library.
Ex-All Black Norm Hewitt will be presenting the documentary "Making Good Men" that he made with NZ actor Manu Bennett, and holding discussions with the group. We think this is an amazing opportunity for our young men to take time together to think about what makes a good man.
We will be walking to and from the Monkey House Theatre (Coghill Street) for this opportunity. And although the Youth Leadership Trust has already financed this venture, we would appreciate a gold coin donation to help off-set the costs if you are able to.
There will be a further screening on Friday 27th at 6.30pm for the wider community. Admission is $5 and seats are limited so please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you would like to book a spot.
Please click on the link below to give permission, or email your child's homeroom teacher to give permission.
