Boomerang Bags

Boomerang-bags

This is a community driven initiative to reduce the number of plastic bags in our community, simply by making reusable bags from recycled materials.

Everyone is welcome to come along every Tuesday afternoon to Mercury Bay Area School to make reusable bags in the sewing room. Its a great opportunity to come along and meet new people, do some sewing, ironing, pining, screen printing or just enjoy a cup of tea.

Help us reduce the amount of plastic bags in our community so we can save our beautiful environment.

MBAS Japan Tour Report

On Sunday morning, 9th April 2017, twelve students and three staff members (Sandi Lowe, Joanna Mannington and Judy Evans) boarded our Air New Zealand flight to Tokyo, ready to embark on a two week language and cultural journey. This trip, which had been a year and a half in the planning, was intended to give our MBAS language learners the opportunity to connect their classroom learning of the language and culture of Japan to the reality of a lived experience. The itinerary had been compiled to include a mix of modern and pop culture, traditional culture and visits to sites of historical significance.

School Closed Tomorrow 13th April

Kia Ora Whanau,

Due to the information we have gathered on Cyclone Cook from Civil Defence, TCDC, Met Service and the Ministry of Education, the Board of Trustees and I have decided that the school will be closed tomorrow (April 13th).

Please do not send your children to school.

The following Information has been received from TCDC

The Coromandel is on a full weather alert with the high possibility that Cyclone Cook will make landfall on the Coromandel in the next 24 hours.

Civil Defence is advising everybody to stock up on the supplies and medication today that will last at least 3 days.

"Everyone needs to be in a safe place and be prepared to sit it out for 24 hours or more," says Thames Valley Civil Defence Controller Garry Towler.

"Those planning to travel to or from the Coromandel from tonight through to Saturday, please delay your travel as the liklihood of slips and road closures is very high," says Mr Towler.

Residents need to be prepared for:
•       Flooding - the Coromandel is saturated from previous weather events
•       Multiple slips and debris flow (floods on steroids)
•       The likelihood of power loss
•       Road closures - both local Council roads and NZTA State Highways

Please keep safe and we will see you all in term 2.

Regards
Anne-Maree McDougall
Acting Principal

Bike & Scooter Safety

Please remind children to be safe on their scooters and bikes coming to and from school. There have been a couple of near misses at intersections and with pedestrians. Cook Drive gets quite congested after school, scooters should be aware of pedestrians and give way to them on the footpath please. Bicycles also need to give way to pedestrians and be aware of traffic entering and exiting side streets.
